Meet Sparkie Eilidh
November 2024
Meet Eilidh, one of our lovely Sparkies!
Sparkies are our constellation of volunteers who support Spark programs and help us to ignite connection. Sharing their stories and perspectives normalises loneliness as a shared human experience.
Why did you join Spark?
I wanted to meet more people, be more sociable and push myself out of my comfort zone a little bit. It’s easy to stay at home. It’s been challenging, but it’s really growing on me.
Â
We moved to Stirling when the kids were in school. We had lots of people we saw every day, but as the kids became older, those friendships just drifted away and it was harder to meet people you could really connect with. So that’s why I wanted to work with Spark. So, I was looking to meet a whole collection of different people and Spark has done that.
Â
What Sparks joy for you?
Definitely time in nature. I love bushwalking. Mark Oliphant conservation park is my local park and it’s a favourite but really most of the Mt Lofty Ranges are fab.
Â
I love time on my own to recharge. I’m a bit of an introvert and I need that time to myself, especially after a busy day at work.
Â
And travel, which I don’t do a lot but just exploring new places. Going somewhere different that you’ve never been, that’s really fun. We recently had a week in Sydney, and we went hiking. We did some of the amazing bay hikes.
Â
Do you have any hobbies?
Gardening and learning about native plants. Photography – I do like to photograph in nature. Also, citizen science. Have you heard of citizen science? It can be for all sorts of projects. So, in Spring you might go out and look for orchids on your bushwalks and record them, then upload them to an app and it helps out with data.
Â
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Sleepless in Seattle!
Â
Thanks Eilidh!
